...it all began 10 years ago.

The Spider Garden, like most films came from a spark of inspiration, and this got my imagination going wild. I am a visual thinker, so these ideas came in the form of a mental slide show.

I was working as an assistant animator at the time on a short for ITV. My desk was situated in the basement of Broadway Cinema in Nottingham. The basement housed a number of small in-house production companies, and my desk was adjacent to one of these work spaces.

One particular day I was chatting to the guy that worked at this desk, then something caught my eye. He had a string tied from one side of his desk to the other, and on it were different notes, postcards, photos all pegged to this string. This became the seed for what is now The Spider Garden. My imagination exploded. 'Wouldn't it be crazy if, rather than photos and notes pegged to this line but hundreds of twitching spiders?'

Then the idea developed and developed into what is now a 98 page script.

Over the past decade, The Spider Garden has gone through a number of changes. It was originally intended to be a 7 minute animated short. Until recently I shelved the idea, now 10 years later the spiders are back.
